Sports Injuries

At Bellbowrie Family Practice, we believe in early diagnosis and the prompt treatment of sports injuries to enable you to return to work or sport as soon as possible. We will also refer you for specialist care if necessary.

Common Sports Injuries

We are able to diagnose a wide range of sports injuries, but some are more common than others. The sports injuries that we treat most frequently include:

  • Concussion
This type of injury often occurs in contact sports such as rugby. A blow to the head can cause many immediate and long-term symptoms, with the most obvious being a temporary loss of consciousness, dizziness and nausea.
  • Ankle Injuries
Trauma to ankles often causes injuries to ligaments and tendons. Symptoms include pain that doesn’t get better, difficulty bearing weight on the injured ankle and reduced movement.
  • Knee Injuries
Knee injuries often involve damage to ligaments. The symptoms include pain, swelling, difficulty bearing weight and reduced movement.
  • Shin Pain
Shin pain is commonly experienced by running athletes. The causes vary, but symptoms include jarring pain in the shins when running.
